RESOLUTIONS?

BY STEVE DUNN

The New Year is now four days old.  Typically other bloggers and myself greet the new year who some "wise" and/or "grandiose" pontifications about resolutions, goal-setting, or even commentary on how we face the "new day" that is the New Year.  I know because I have done this more than once in blogging year.

I've decided not to do that this year.  For one thing, I am a planner whose plans get very complicated.  I also know that the resolutions I make are too easily lost in the immediate business of living and often depend on what others will do to facilitate my resolutions, which are not their resolutions.  I came across this cartoon the other day that reflects a whole lot us, including me.

Don't get me wrong.  I tend to wing it a lot because my plans go awry; but it is not my preference.  Instead of resolutions which can fade, I prefer to operate from core values which are more eternal and more dependable throughout all time, not just this little bit of chronos time.

Those core values for me are summed in the words of the Apostle Paul: "For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." - 1 Corinthians 3:11

Years and circumstances come and go, but the Word and for those grounded on Him, not only endure but thrive forever.
